Since its inception in 1973, St. Patrick Senior Center has evolved into a comprehensive health and wellness program that provides valuable services including hot and nutritious meals, an excellent health care clinic, and transportation assistance to the area’s elderly citizens. We also offer fun and educational classes in subjects such as music and art, exercise programs designed for healthy living, social activities that create lasting friendships, and the opportunity for spiritual enrichment. Most importantly we provide participants with a closely knit and caring community where seniors can feel welcome and
involved.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work of hundreds of volunteers or the generous support of corporate and business leaders. Over the years we have received grants from the Kresge Foundation, the Skillman Foundation, and most recently, the Michigan Women’s Foundation. Along with Federal, State, and City funds this support has enabled the renovation of our lovely historic building and the continuation of our mission.
St. Patrick Senior Center was incorporated as a non-denominational, non-profit organization for elders in 1983, and we are the only remaining community based health clinic for seniors in Detroit. The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) has recognized the value we bring to the community by designating St. Pat’s as the model senior center for the City of Detroit and throughout the state.
