St. Patrick Senior Center has been improving the
quality of life for seniors in Detroit
for over 30 years. We are dedicated to enabling
seniors to live rich and independent lives by
providing a wide range of services, activities,
and classes, as well as the support of a caring
community. Our commitment to excellence and
service has made the senior center quite
popular; we are fortunate enough to currently
serve over 2,000 area residents.
In 1973 Sister Mary Watson opened the doors of
St. Patrick Senior Center to seven elderly
residents of Detroit’s Cass Corridor
neighborhood and served a home-cooked, healthy
meal. Since that time our program has expanded
significantly, as have the services we offer. In
1983, St. Patrick Senior Center was incorporated
as a non-denominational, non-profit organization
for elders, aged 60 and over.
Today St. Patrick Senior Center has evolved
into a comprehensive health and wellness program
that provides valuable services including hot
and nutritious meals, an excellent health care
clinic, and transportation assistance. We are
the only remaining community based health clinic
for seniors in the City of Detroit.
Additionally, we offer fun and educational
classes in subjects such as music and art,
exercise programs designed for healthy living,
social activities that create lasting
friendships, and the opportunity for spiritual
enrichment. Most importantly we provide
participants with a closely knit and caring
community where seniors can feel welcome and
involved.
The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) has
recognized the value we bring to the community
by designating St. Patrick Senior Center as the
model senior center for the City of Detroit and
throughout the state. |
